About Moving and Baking

I’ve pretty much always been on the move in some way.

When I was younger, I spent countless hours doing gymnastics, dance, running, and biking.

Two knee surgeries and a couple career choices later, “moving” evolved into moving homes. 8 times in 15 years, to be exact, including two cross-country: from NY to CA and CA to TX.

My husband and I have made these last three moves, in particular, in pursuit of the mythical work-life balance.

In most ways, we believe we’ve achieved it.

Our next goal is financial independence – specifically, paying off our house within 5 years.

Professionally, I’m a woman in technology. I’ve made conscious professional choices attempting to ride the “mommy track”, and while to some degree I’m on it, I still can’t quite bring myself to jump off the executive track completely. Some days “balance” feels real, and others like a myth, but I want to set a strong example for my girls.

When my kitchen stuff is unpacked, I love being in the kitchen. I cook daily and bake weekly for my husband, two young girls, and myself. Making everyone happy is like solving a fun puzzle. My two girls would be lacto-carb-itarians if we’d let them, my husband loves anything with meat and potatoes, and I’ve recently discovered some allergies to work around. I also view end of week leftovers like an episode of Chopped – what can we make from leftover rice, a single cooked pork chop, some barely-still-ok spinach, and 12 blueberries?

Join me on my mommy track to balance and financial freedom!
